When to use PNG
PNG is lossless, so the image will not lose more quality when edited and saved again. It is preferred for logos, screenshots, graphics and design files.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
Some design tools, printing services and app stores ask for PNG. PNG also avoids further quality loss if you will edit and save the image several times. Expect the PNG file to be larger than the original JPG.
File size: what to expect
PNG stores every pixel without compression loss, so a 300KB JPG photo often becomes a 1–3MB PNG. That is normal. If you only need a smaller file, keep JPG or use Compress Image instead.
Does PNG add transparency?
Converting does not remove backgrounds by itself — the white or colored background of your JPG stays in the PNG. You would need a background removal tool to make it transparent.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert several JPGs at once?
Yes. Select multiple images and download them as a ZIP file.
Will converting to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG keeps the current quality without further loss, but it cannot restore detail already lost in the JPG.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
Is this tool really free?
Yes. It is 100% free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.
