What is WebP?
WebP is a modern image format used by many websites to load faster. Some older apps, editors and upload forms do not accept it, so converting to JPG solves compatibility problems.
Why websites use WebP
WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, so sites load faster. When you save such an image, though, some editors, older Windows photo viewers and upload forms will not open it — converting to JPG fixes that.
How to tell if an image is WebP
Check the file name ending: .webp. On Windows, enable “File name extensions” in File Explorer's View menu to see it. Images saved from Google Images, news sites and online shops are often WebP even when they look like normal photos.
Quality settings
90% JPG quality is visually identical to the original for almost every photo and keeps files small. Use 100% only if you plan to edit the image heavily; use 70–80% for web uploads where size matters more.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert many WebP images at once?
Yes. Select several files and download them all together as a ZIP.
Is transparency kept?
No. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. Use PNG if you need transparency.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
Is this tool really free?
Yes. It is 100% free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.
